THE SGR AWARDS SCHEME

The awards scheme has been introduced to provide members with additional incentives for achievement in their running. Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum standard awards are available and will be presented to successful applicants at the Club’s Celebration Evening each year.  These will be based on the Age Group standards from WMA (World Masters Athletics) and to be entitled to an award you’ll need to have achieved the standard across a number of running distance categories within your 5 year age group.

Guidelines for claiming an award

The standards required at each event distance to achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum awards are shown in the tables below. If you have achieved the times listed in the tables of road race distances or the paces listed for the qualifying off-road race distance ranges, you can apply for an award. To receive an award though you need to achieve the standard in 4 of the categories listed. This can be in either 4 out of the 5 road race categories, or 4 out of a mix of the 5 road race categories and the 3 off road race distance bands. If your application is verified, the award will be presented to you at the Club’s Celebration Evening.

The onus is on the individual to provide evidence of their achievements to support their application.  You can mix road and off-road performance achievements in your application but the races supporting your application must have all been completed within the same calendar year running from 1^st November to 31^st October.  You must submit your application on or before the 31st October.  (The first application year for the scheme will be November 2024 to October 2025).

Making your application

To make an application, you will need to provide the following information:

• Your name and DOB
• The Age category and award standard you are applying for
• A list of the 4 event results supporting your application, (include your age on race day).
• Evidence for each result as follows;
  • For road races, a link to the results database (or screen shot of the result).
  • For off road races, a link to the results database (or screen shot) plus a link to a Strava record (or equivalent GPX) showing the actual distance run, the route and the pace you achieved. To corroborate, you must also send a second gpx record made by another runner at the same event, (and in order for your race to qualify the distances recorded in the two records must agree to within 2%). Please note the second record of distance is required because of typical gpx record variability.

The 5 qualifying road race distance categories are:

• 5K race, (parkrun results are acceptable supported by a Strava or other GPX record)
• 5ml or 10K race
• 10ml race
• ½ Mar race
• Marathon race

The 3 qualifying trail race (or cross-country) race distances bands are:

• 4 to 6 mls race
• 6 to 10mls race
• >10mls race

Please submit your applications by email to the SGR Awards adjudicator at club-coach@stubbingtongreenrunners.net

SGR AWARDS SCHEME RULES – (IMPORTANT Please read these before making an application)

1. You can only claim a particular award standard once in each 5 year age group.
2. To qualify for an award you much reach the qualifying standard in 4 race categories during a qualifying year which runs from 1^st November to 31^st October.
3. You can mix road and off-road category achievements in your application but the races supporting your application must have all been completed within the same qualifying year.
4. You can claim an award in an age category if you were at that age at some point during the qualifying year.
5. If you were in two age groups during the same year you are free to claim an award in either age group during that year, (e.g. if you were 39 up to your birthday mid-year and then became 40 you could claim awards in either the 35+ or the 40+ age groups, assuming you gained results in races to support both these applications during that year).
6. For all qualifying races, on the day of the race your age must lie within the age group for the award you are claiming. However, if you moved into the next higher age group during the year you are claiming, you are allowed to use those results to support your application in the lower age group, (but not vice versa).
7. For trail runs, the adjudicator will need to verify the route recorded by your GPS device, if this appears to deviate significantly from the race route, or by more than 2% from the second gpx record submitted, your application will not be valid.
8. The SGR adjudicator’s decision will be final regarding all applications.
